The School’s Vision
At Alvaston Infant and Nursery School, we take pride in developing outstanding teaching and learning by holding the highest expectations of all our pupils and knowing the children well. We challenge all children to strive for academic, creative, sporting and personal accomplishment within a broad, vibrant and enriched curriculum. We celebrate perseverance, resilience and risk taking, ensuring children welcome challenge and are not frightened to make mistakes. We encourage children to take ownership of and responsibility for their learning, so they have the confidence and curiosity to ask questions, solve problems and respond to quality feedback. Children are praised for hard work, determination and having a positive attitude.
In order to create an inclusive school where everyone can flourish, whatever their background, religion, gender, ethnicity or beliefs; we promote an ethos of respect and empathy, where diversity is valued and celebrated – both within school and the wider world. Safeguarding and welfare is extremely important and pupils are taught the virtues of kindness, appreciation and what it means to be respectful. Special care is taken to educate everyone in our school about the needs of others and how best to meet them. We foster open and honest communication with parents and actively seek to engage with all members of the community in a positive and supportive manner. British Values underpin our school vision. High quality teaching is a key priority at Alvaston Infants and the relationship between staff, children and parents underpins inspirational, supportive and effective teaching and learning. It is our aim for all children to leave our school as independent learners with self-belief and an abiding respect for others. We aim to instil a lifelong love for learning and a strong grounding for future success. We aim to help each child to feel secure and happy in early school life, and to provide the kind of balanced environment which will help the child to develop a lively enquiring mind, to work with enthusiasm and to develop a sense of curiosity and wonder about the world. OUR COLLECTIVE SCHOOL VISION:
‘Being the best we can be’
We aim to provide a curriculum which is broad and balanced and relevant to each individual child’s needs whatever his/her ability. At the infant and nursery stages practical activities enable the child to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding that will become a firm foundation for future learning. The ability to communicate clearly and confidently is very important to us as is the development of the child’s physical and creative skills in art, music, drama and dance. We endeavour to enable the child to develop a respect for others, including a respect for other children’s race, culture and creed, and alongside this to develop an awareness of their physical environment and the importance of caring for it.
